Update to Save Harmony Trail

Journal Entry: Wed Apr 22, 2015, 11:22 AM

Happy Earth Day

As an update to my previous journal entry about saving the Harmony Trail and also the historic town of Harmony.

Update #1 April 20, 2015 by Josh Meeder

There have been some small "wins" recently. First, the PA Dept. of Environmental Protect & Army Corp of Engineer's have told the developer that his plans underestimated the amount of wetlands. They requested new plans for review. Additionally, the PA Historical & Museum Commission has weighed in. They indicated an Archeological Phase 1 study must be complete to identify any impact.

We also have our www.PreservingHarmony.com and GoFundMe.com/PreservingHarmony sites set up.

Hopefully, the housing development in the wetlands will be held off a little longer.  If you want to sign a petition, there is a website for that listed in my previous journal.

I will have to do another journal featuring some of my favorite photos again soon.  Been having trouble with cataracts so haven't been too busy with submissions.  I'm hoping surgery can be set soon as I'm not allowed to drive now.

Happy Earth Day to everyone, get out and enjoy the day.

SAVE THE HARMONY TRAIL

Journal Entry: Sat Mar 21, 2015, 7:13 AM

I just signed the petition: "STOP! the Creekside Manor Project from filling the flood plain and destroying wetlands"  Will you join me in supporting this issue? www.thepetitionsite.com/takeac…

My beloved Harmony Trail is in danger of development and I have been reaching out to various local and state groups.  It is only a 47 acre tract of land beside the Connequenessing Creek but has a lovely hiking trail that ends up at the Mennonite Cemetery.  I had no idea this property was owned by a development company until my son-in-law sent me a newspaper article talking about it and how the town and township had been holding up the plans for 10 years!!  I don’t live in Harmony and just assumed the borough owned the property.

This housing development would be built on a flood plain (yes, great idea) and would require moving earth around and building a retention pond.  The Historic town of Harmony would be put at risk since they are situated on the opposite side of the creek.  I’m not sure if the company has the required permits yet.

I have been e-mailing the mayor of Harmony, Lancaster Township and Preservation Pennsylvania to oppose this plan.  I came late to the game and felt it was a “day late and dollar short” kind of thing.  In fact, the property owners had started cutting down trees along the trail much to the outrage of Harmony residents.

Much to my surprise, I received an e-mail from the president of Scholars Run Conservancy, a group dedicated to preserving and improving trails in our community.  He read my e-mail to the president of Historic Harmony where I expressed my concerns and attached recent photos of the trail.  He asked if he could use my photos and text from my e-mail.  I was so honored and glad to know that my heartfelt message did not go unnoticed.

Winter, the season I love to hate.  At least until I see these gorgeous winter scenes.  I actually went outside (you are allowed to gasp) in the snow a couple of times and actually enjoyed it.  Hope you enjoy these beautiful, cold, frosty, snowy, icy, arctic and hypothermic photos.

HAPPY NEW YEAR 2014

Tue Dec 31, 2013, 12:22 PM

One Song more & I have done — Auld lang syne
The air is but mediocre; but the following song, the
old song of the olden times, & which has never been
in print, nor even in manuscript, untill I took it
down from an old man’s singing; is enough to
recommend any air —

Robert Burns

Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And never brought to mind?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And auld lang syne?

For auld lang syne, my dear,
For auld lang syne,
We'll tak a cup o' kindness yet,
For auld lang syne.

And surely ye'll be your pint-stowp,
And surely I'll be mine!
And we'll tak a cup o' kindness yet,
For auld lang syne.

For auld lang syne, my dear,
For auld lang syne,
We'll tak a cup o' kindness yet,
For auld lang syne.

We twa hae run about the braes,
And pu'd the gowans fine;
But we've wandered mony a weary fit
Sin' auld lang syne.

For auld lang syne, my dear,
For auld lang syne,
We'll tak a cup o' kindness yet,
For auld lang syne.

We twa hae paidled i' the burn,
Frae morning sun till dine;
But seas between us braid hae roared
Sin' auld lang syne.

For auld lang syne, my dear,
For auld lang syne,
We'll tak a cup o' kindness yet,
For auld lang syne.

And there's a hand, my trusty fiere,
And gie's a hand o' thine!
And we'll tak a right guid-willie waught

For auld lang syne.

For auld lang syne, my dear,
For auld lang syne,
We'll tak a cup o' kindness yet,
For auld lang syne.

JEANIE'S JOURNAL

Journal Entry: Wed May 2, 2012, 12:31 PM

I visited Elk County, Pennsylvania for a couple of days and, yes, there are elk in Elk County.  I wasn't able to get a good pic of one with antlers but maybe in the fall.  Today I will submit the best elk photos.  They are shedding their winter coats so look a bit moth-eaten.  Later, I will upload some of the spectacular scenery there.

Thought I'd give you a little of the history of the elk in Pennsylvania.  Elk once roamed throughout Pennsylvania, but settlements and hunting destroyed the herds.  By 1867, elk had been completely eliminated from the state.  The Pennsylvania Game Commission introduced 167 Rocky Mountain Elk and some from a private reserve in Monroe County, PA  into the state from 1913 through 1926, and released them in central and north-eastern Pennsylvania.  Only the north-central releases were successful.  The herd now numbers 800.

JEANIE'S JOURNAL

Journal Entry: Wed Apr 18, 2012, 11:53 AM
My project is to document all the flowering shrubs, trees and flowers around my house.  I already have some, but am going to follow through the seasons.  Didn't realize how many flowering spring plants I have.

The Rules:
1. You must post the rules.
2. Each person must post 5 things about themselves in their journal
3. Answer the questions the tagger set for you in their post, and create eleven new questions for the people you tag to answer.
4. You have to choose 11 people to tag and post their icons on your journal.
5. Go to their page and tell them you have tagged them.
6. No tag backs
7. No stuff in the tagging section about "You're tagged if you're reading this". You legitimately have to tag 11 people.

5 things about me:
I am 63 years old.  Yeah, don't tell anyone.
I have 196 books on my Kindle that I've had for 15 months.
I loooove chocolate.
I love the beach.
I HATE littering.

1.Which countrys have you visited in your life yet?

Only Canada, Jamaica and the Bahamas.

2.Have you ever been to Germany? If yes..where?

No, unfortunately.

3.What comes to your mind if you think of Germany/Germans? 3 things please

I know people that have been to Germany and they always say how friendly and welcoming the people are.
The scenery and of course, beer.

4.Do you have a fear or phobie of something? (spiders, hights, flying....)

I am terrified of heights.

5.What has been the most gutsy situation/moment in your life?

Giving birth.

6.Do you play an instrument? If yes, which and since when?

No

7.Would you like to live in another time? If yes..what time and why?

No, we always romanticize other time periods, but they always come with hardships we forget about.

8.If the movie could become real...in which would you prefer to be?
- A night at the Museum / Star Wars / Twilight / (other?)

Splash,  because I've always wanted to be a mermaid. ha ha

9.What would you prefer to be: A vampire or a werwolve? Why?

Werewolf, because they only change during a full moon.  The rest of the time, you can be normal.

10.What´s your greatest wish you can buy with money?

A dream home.  I don't mean a big mansion, I don't know what I'd do with that.  Just a home that you could design the way you wanted and where you want, with a beautiful view.

11.What is your favourite female and male actor?

Meryl Streep and Anthony Hopkins

:iconrabbitsplz::iconrabbitsplz::iconrabbitsplz::iconrabbitsplz::iconrabbitsplz::iconrabbitsplz::iconrabbitsplz:

  5.  What was the happiest moment of your life?
  6.  What occupation (this is a fantasy) would you like to have if you had the education and/or talent?
  7.  What person in history (living or from the past) would you want to meet?
  8.  Do you believe in ghosts?
