I just signed the petition: "STOP! the Creekside Manor Project from filling the flood plain and destroying wetlands" Will you join me in supporting this issue? www.thepetitionsite.com/takeac…
My beloved Harmony Trail is in danger of development and I have been reaching out to various local and state groups. It is only a 47 acre tract of land beside the Connequenessing Creek but has a lovely hiking trail that ends up at the Mennonite Cemetery. I had no idea this property was owned by a development company until my son-in-law sent me a newspaper article talking about it and how the town and township had been holding up the plans for 10 years!! I don’t live in Harmony and just assumed the borough owned the property.
This housing development would be built on a flood plain (yes, great idea) and would require moving earth around and building a retention pond. The Historic town of Harmony would be put at risk since they are situated on the opposite side of the creek. I’m not sure if the company has the required permits yet.
I have been e-mailing the mayor of Harmony, Lancaster Township and Preservation Pennsylvania to oppose this plan. I came late to the game and felt it was a “day late and dollar short” kind of thing. In fact, the property owners had started cutting down trees along the trail much to the outrage of Harmony residents.
Much to my surprise, I received an e-mail from the president of Scholars Run Conservancy, a group dedicated to preserving and improving trails in our community. He read my e-mail to the president of Historic Harmony where I expressed my concerns and attached recent photos of the trail. He asked if he could use my photos and text from my e-mail. I was so honored and glad to know that my heartfelt message did not go unnoticed.
